I am Priya Hunt, a PhD researcher in Leadership, Organisation and Behaviour at Henley Business School, with 30 years of corporate leadership experience. As we navigate through Industry 5.0, leadership challenges continue to escalate. We are now exploring how humans and artificial intelligence can collaborate to forge superior ideas. This era, marked by its complexity, often leads to distractions and information overload, making it challenging to maintain connection—crucial elements for being an effective, empathetic, and inclusive leader.
In this context, the concept of Flow, the optimal state of being 'in the zone' as described by the esteemed American-Hungarian psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, becomes particularly relevant. Flow has been extensively researched, demonstrating substantial benefits for both performance and well-being. I firmly believe that fostering conditions for this optimal state can significantly enhance leaders' ability to manage contemporary challenges effectively.
Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of receiving exceptional training and coaching that have honed my technical, interpersonal, and leadership skills. However, there is a noticeable lack of focus on how to achieve and maintain the state of Flow and how to maximise one's potential, environment, and work output. This gap forms the basis of my research, and I am eager to involve you in this pivotal endeavour that aims to enrich leadership theory and practice.
Summary of my research:
💡 What: The Leadership Flow Initiative, part of Henley Business School's PhD research study.
❓ Why: This research aims to leverage Flow to significantly enhance leadership performance and well-being.
👤 Who: Open to current leaders and managers over 18, with at least 2 years of leadership experience, who have not undergone major changes in their roles recently to ensure full engagement.
📅 When: Starts February 2025 onwards. Registration is free.
🔄 Study Design: All participants will complete online self-learning modules at no cost. People will be allocated to Group A or B based on their availability for attending a 1-day in person workshop in Reading on the 8th of May. The other group will receive 1:1 coaching sessions.
📋 Participation: Involves completing surveys and interviews before and after the interventions, with follow-ups at 3 and 6 months to assess long-term effects. Total time commitment will not exceed a day and half for Group A, including the training and a day for Group B, including the coaching.
💷 Bonus: All participants who complete all aspects of the study will be entered into a draw for a £100 voucher, or they can choose to have a donation made to a charity of their choice.
