All endings are also beginnings. We just don't know it at the time. - Mitch Albom Continuing on my series of Idea sparks about research, I had the joy of speaking to Derek Hill who gave a great precis of his work on endings. As a coach, we do come to the end of coaching partnerships and when we do, it's a great time to reflect on that journey and Derek's work gives us a framework to do just that. This is part of my Ideaspark research series where I speak to Priscila Filleti about her research on the impact of Group Coaching on women. It is based on Robbie Swale's 12-minute method and is a short summary of the great research that Pri has done for her MSc. in Coaching and Behavioural Change. It's a short and snappy talk that could really help leaders and organisations build a community and contribute to improved confidence within their teams. If you're particularly interested in inclusion and gender-equity, it's a good listen. 'View life as a continuous learning experience!' (Dennis Waitley) Have you ever considered further education or are you pursuing something right now? If so, things can seem overwhelming at times - but as someone who's on this journey, keep going is what I'd say to you (and myself). I had the joy of speaking with 3 of my amazing cohort from my MSc. in Coaching & Behavioural Change from Henley Business School who shared their highlights and challenges and how they overcame them in their MSc. journey. As we edge towards our graduation ceremony next week, this is a great watch if you want to hear how people with very different styles and approaches have succeeded and glean some practical tips from them. A big thanks to Gary Keogh, Edina Dobos and Kat Flynn for their time and a delightful discussion. Respond to every call that excites the spirit! (Rumi) We all have dreams but as adults, we let life overtake these and don't always have the appetite for the risks we need to take to follow them. I talk to three exciting friends and ex-colleagues who have taken that risk and made some dramatic turns in their journey. It's amazing to hear from Indu Basu (corporate leader turned entrepreneur and NGO founder), Sarbasis Bhattacharya (corporate leader turned professional actor) and Vishal Sinha (corporate leader turned start-up founder). It's certainly inspired some ideas in me - I hope it does in you too. 'All endings are also beginnings. We just don't know it at the time!' (Mitch Albom) I had the most amazing time speaking with Mike Phillips, who's done some great research on expatriate endings (and new beginnings) as part of his MSc. in Coaching and Behavioural Change. This podcast uses the Robbie Swale's 12-minute method (www.robbieswale.com) to explore nearly 12 months of research and condense it into 12 minutes. A must listen if you're in the HR department of an organisation that has an expatriate workforce and if you are an expat yourself and looking to come home.
"Choices are the hinges of destiny" (Edward Markham) I love this quote, it tells us the potential choices have in our lives. And the best part is, it doesn't have to always be something earth-shattering or gigantic. Every little choice we make helps us move on in some direction. I had a delightful 12 minutes talking about this with Robbie Swale, the third of our 12-minute Ideaspark series. However, this is one with a twist as we didn't even discuss the topic beforehand. So it's very informal and a discussion that may be very relevant at a point when you're about to make a choice or thinking about your future goals. Do let us know what you think as this has been a real experiment and we'd love your feedback. “Good leadership requires you to surround yourself with people of diverse perspectives who can disagree with you without fear of retaliation.” — Doris Kearns Goodwin Nature has shown us how biodiversity is crucial for our world to thrive. And, using the same lens, having diversity of thought at work and life in general is equally crucial for the human society to thrive in today's world. Inclusive leadership is much talked about but not often understood well enough and even less effectively practiced. I have the privilege of talking to three experts - Alison Maitland, Garry Browne and Rebecca Brown, who bring their different perspectives and expertise as coaches, authors, researchers and practitioners to this thought-provoking discussion. “Control of consciousness determines the quality of life.” Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi Really excited to do this for the second time with Robbie Swale, using his 12-minute method in a live conversation on a topic that I adore - Flow! Psychological Flow is the state where we are so fully absorbed in an activity where nothing else matters. This is a state of optimal consciousness and is also shown to be more productive, effective and better for well-being. This is a free-flowing conversation (pun intended) on Flow. Hope you enjoy this short conversation as much as we enjoyed taking part. 'The most important thing in communication is to hear what isn't being said!' (Peter Drucker) A podcast where I talk to three communications experts - Akhil Vyas (Social Media professional), Henry Badman (Environmental scientist) and Miles Evans (Head of public affairs). A delightfully provocative and easy-going discussion where we talk about things ranging from seahorses and earbuds to Twitter and listening to understand. Communication is something that comes naturally to the human race as we are master storytellers, but we seem to often forget that in the business/corporate world. There are some fab tips and tricks and also an open discussion about their own personal experience in this episode. I hope you enjoy this - these 3 Amigos inspired me to start Ideasparks as a vidcast. |
